Personal Art Practices
My favourite thing about teaching Visual Art is that I get to expand on my own creative ideas along with the students as we work. It's a privilege being able to fulfil my own artistic ambition without getting stuck in just one discipline, simultaneously facilitating young learners to do the same. I believe that to avoid artistic burnout, art teachers should switch between and combine art, craft and design strands as often as possible. Only by stepping outside of our comfort zones and sharing what we learn can we improve as teachers and practitioners.
Creating art becomes more enjoyable and rewarding the better we become at making it. This is why I strive to up-skill at any given opportunity through part-time and online courses. Continuous Professional Development will always play a vital part of my career, and that includes learning and practicing in as many disciplines as I can. There will always be something to improve on and hopefully my students and fellow teachers can provide valuable feedback on my work as I will with theirs.
